Taylor Swift’s 1989 touches the 4million mark

Taylor Alison Swift, the popular American songwriter, singer and actress is riding high with 1989, her fifth studio album becoming an official member of the 4 million sales club.

This popular album, released on the 27th of October, 2014 made a total weekly sale of about 92,196 according to the data received by Soundscan, the system for tracking sales and information on music and music videos. Another landmark Swift’s album achieved is that it attained a sale of over 4 millions in the United States.

In fact none of her other albums have made this mark. After being registered as the best-selling album of 2014 in just two months, about 3.66 million copies of it were sold.  It crossed the 4 million mark in 12 weeks after being released.

Swift had stated this album as her first official pop release after parting ways from her band members. As a part of the promotional campaign of 1989, Swift went on to invite her fans to the “1989 Secret Sessions” at her houses in Los Angeles, Rhode Island, Nashville and New York. The manner in which she made use of social media to promote her album was impressive.

This album of hers has been the most successful in comparison to her other works. Her second album Fearless released in 2008 took 50 weeks to attain the 4 million mark, whereas ‘Speak Now’ being released in 2010 achieved the 4 million targets after about 69 weeks. Her other album Red released in 2012 where 9 of the 16 songs were written by her took the same time. The 1989 World Tour will be conducted from May to December, 2015.
